2/1/09...A fun little snow ride on Superbowl Sunday . Christi and I on the tandem and my old friend Pete on his old school bike. we started on Walker Rd. at Smith Ravine trail head. the plan was to ride up Walker road to Senator Hwy and grind up Spruce Mountain road and down Smith. So after climbing up Walker rd.
I thought well the snow isn't so bad lets go up Isabella tr. thinking that would keep off the wet icy and muddy roads. now Isabella is a steep hard trail and even harder on the tandem so we hiked-a-bike up most of it. Once on trail 307 we started running into snow and fallen trees and the closer we got the more snow and trees we had to deal with...I would say 25 to 30 trees down. So with cold wet feet we made it to the top :] now for the road, a down hill to Smith Ravine that had snow as well, but a couple of car tire tracks to follow. Pete sped away from us. Christi said Wow... he's flying I can't believe how fast he's going" Me "of course he's going fast...he has no brakes"...we stopped a couple of times on the way down to make snow angels...unintentionally :] When we caught up with Pete he had stories of Mr. Toads wild ride!...fun stuff. as we were trudgen through the snow back on the top of the mountain I kept thinking and praying to my self that Smith would be snow free knowing all too well most of the trail was on the north side...lucked out!!! Smith was wonderful just a bit of snow here and there. very very fun ride on the tandem...hey we might even make the kick off :]
